Going Nuts? I can help you understand coupon terms and abbreviations

Many of you have found Southern Savers because you are either already using coupons or you want to start, but there are also a good number of you out there who don’t want to cut coupons, for whatever reason. You all know I will always recommend coupons, but I also want to give you tips if you don’t have access to coupons or just don’t want to do it.

Save 50 Percent on Groceries Without Cutting Coupons

Here are my top tips to save 50 percent on groceries even without coupons. Keep in mind you could do better with a few coupons, but I won’t nag you. We all have to do what works best for us!

Only buy what’s on sale

Every item in a grocery has a rock bottom low price. Prices fluctuate constantly for items, so you want to learn the best price for the items you purchase. For most items that price is 40% off or more.

To see what is the best price each week, look up the store you want to shop at on Southern Savers. I don’t type the entire store ad; the only items on the list will be deals that are at least 40% off or more! You can ignore all the coupons; just check the boxes to make a list. At the bottom you’ll see a small check box that says “Include Coupon Matchups.” Uncheck the box and magically you have a shopping list of just sale items without any of those pesky coupons!

Buy enough of the sale items to last you until the next sale

Once you see the best price, you want to stock up. Grocery sales run like clockwork on a 6-8 week cycle. Grabbing taco shells at 50% off and getting enough to last 6 weeks means you will never run out and have to pay full price.

Give up brand loyalties

Being brand loyal is the one thing that every brand wants. You will buy their products no matter the price. The problem for you is that you are ignoring great deals on similar products. While you are stuck only buying $4 Tide detergent, you missed the chance to get the same size bottle of All for 67¢. (Or since we aren’t using coupons here, $1.67)

Pick the best store for deals

If you think you are saving money buying all your groceries at Walmart, you are very wrong. To get the best prices, you want to buy groceries in a grocery store! Not only because they have sales and Walmart doesn’t, but also because they run promotions like instant savings deals, fuel rewards, free milk, and many others. This is a foreign language to Walmartians, but just believe me.

Search for deals on items you need

We all have moments that we run out of an item before it comes back on sale. Make sure to familiarize yourself with the item search on Southern Savers. Search for just the items you need right now. The item search will show you what stores have it on sale this week.

My hope is that after we get you to save 50% just following sale cycles, we can convince you to throw in 1 or 2 coupons.  It’s a gateway to much bigger things.

If cutting coupons is not your cut of tea, you can still save 50 percent on your grocery budget every month. Here are my top tips!
