If you haven’t started already, you’ll probably be going through a lot of cleaning supplies in the next couple of months. Here are some tips to save money on cleaning supplies so you can keep things frugal this year.
1. Don’t be Brand Loyal
Brand loyalty can be the biggest budget killer. When you ignore the brand you’re using, you can save a lot by buying only the brands that are on sale and have coupons.
If there’s some reason you can’t use another brand (like allergies, etc.) search the best deals going on any time for that product with the Southern Savers Item Search List.
2. Buy All-Purpose Cleaners
Simplify your cleaning routine and use an all-purpose cleaner. Don’t spend all your money on buying specialty cleaners for different jobs. Invest in a good all-purpose cleaner to handle almost anything.
3. Make Your Own
Making your own cleaners not only gives you control over the ingredients you put in your cleaners, but often times it’s less expensive.

4. Water is Your Friend
A little water can go a long way. Purchase microfiber cloths, add water and start cleaning. Microfiber cloths are perfect for dusting, cleaning windows, cleaning the cars and more. They can absorb eight times their own weight and you don’t have to use any chemicals to get a good clean. Once you’ve used the cloth, throw it in the washing machine and use it hundreds of more times.
If you don’t want to buy new microfiber cloths, use old rags and socks. This will save you money on paper towels in the long run.
5. Use What You Have On-Hand
Elbow grease is your friend. Be patient and put some muscle behind your cleaning jobs. White vinegar and baking soda are both favorites of mine to clean with. Also, lemon! The acidity in lemon can clean up a lot of chores and you can find a ton of lists online to help you figure out what to clean next with the lemon. Open up your cupboard or fridge and you’re likely to find something that will clean up any mess.

-Add baking soda & wait until it stops foaming
-Add warm water
-Shake Gently
