    The New & Improved Swiffer

    mission-kit

I was recently sent a very fun package in the mail.  The box was huge and opening one box I found another.  It was a big black case and when I opened it up, it started talking.  My Mission should I accept it was to test the new swiffer to the fullest extent.  It even came with sunglasses in a true mission impossible theme.

What a fun presentation for a new Swiffer Wet Jet!  The kit came with a mission dossier for me to truly test this out.  They have redesigned the Swiffer to make it a better cleaner and easier to use. I was definitely impressed but didn’t really know if the “redesign” was going to make it all that different.   To start, you need to know that our floor would not ever be clean if it weren’t for my old swiffer so I don’t know that I needed a redesign, I was already in love.

The mission case came with Jelly that I was to leave on the floor until it dried, but having a walking 18 month old I decided that would be more like finger paint to her.  There was already enough food on the floor to challenge the Swiffer so I got work.

    all-new-swiffer

    Whats new:

    • Two jets now spray out the cleaner rather than just one.  It spreads the cleaner more even and covers more area.
    • The scrub pad that was on the side of the Swiffer has been relocated to the front making it much easier to use!  The scrub pad is also a lot larger than before.  (This is possibly the most important feature for the food that ends up under the high chair.)
    • The handle is now made of metal and feels a lot sturdier in your hands.  I don’t know that this makes it any better, it just seems better.
    • They have added a no slip eye on the end of handle that lets you hang it from a wall hook.  Or it works great to keep the handle where you put it leaning against the wall without falling down.
    • They have also done something (I can’t remember exactly) to make it turn easier.  I don’t know that I noticed any difference here, but I already thought the old one worked great.

All in all, it is a sturdier design than the older version.  It weighs a little more, but that might be because they made the fluid bottle bigger.  It definitely got the job done, it went under and around the highchair with ease and the bigger scrubbing pad was wonderful!  Now if I only I could teach the 4 year olds to use it…

      Grocery Previews, Not Here.

      on 10.5.2009 at 4:46pm
      47 Comments

I get lots of emails and questions about Grocery list sneak previews, so I want to take a minute and explain why they are not here.

First, Grocery ads are considered intellectual COPYRIGHTED material.  The store owns this information and unless you have it in writing from the corporate office that you may post it before they release it, then you are stealing their copyrighted material.  They don’t take to kindly to this and they have copyright lawyers who will send lovely cease & desist letters.

Why do they care??  It is a two fold answer.

      • The store cares because in the grocery world many store managers have a some flexibility and can make in store specials to match their deals.   (The other store might lose money but they are excited to know in advance how to compete).  The store would also like people to shop based on this weeks needs, as you would expect.
      • The big reason though is that the manufacturer’s care.  There is a lot behind store ads the biggest part is the deals, and rebate programs that they manufacturer offers to the store.  Yes the stores do rebates too.  When you see a B1G1 sale in the Publix ad, the store gets compensated for part of the sale and gets a rebate back based on the amount that they sell.   Because of this, leaking a sale ad affects the manufacturer a lot more than the store.  If you knew in advance, then your waiting to buy something means that the manufacturer sells less products at regular price.  If a store continues to allow their deals to be leaked then this becomes a very sore spot with manufacturers and can hinder future deals.  Thus the store has a big reason to get those lawyers busy.

Second, I have given my word to numerous people that though I have their ad early I will never post it before the ad is released by the store.  This agreement is both with my local stores and my husband.  I promised my husband a long time ago that I would never knowingly do anything that would send lawyers to our doorstep.  If you run a blog and have started posting early ads, please know that they mean business and they are much bigger than you (or me).

To answer one last question… Why do I post drugstore previews?

Drugstores have a different take on this than grocery stores do.  I can’t fully say why, but I do know that some stores encourage posting their deals, and others have known for years that the information is out there and do not mind.  They do have their own quirks that send lawyers out, but the ads are not one of them.

      So when are lists posted:

      Sunday:
      Kroger
      Ingles
(usually both  in the late afternoon because we are in church all morning)

      Tuesday:
      Food Lion
      Publix (after 10 pm)
      Bi-Lo (after 10 pm)

      Wednesday:
      Harris Teeter (after 12:01 am)
      – I will post early lists for triples and doubles weeks these lists don’t usually have the weekly ad deals
      Harvey’s (after 12: 01am)

      Thursday:
      CVS (late evening)

Home Depot has a new e-mail club, the Home Improver Club.    Signing up gets you “access to exclusive savings”.  I can’t say what the savings are yet, but I’ve not been disappointed yet with their other e-mail club.   If you are already a part of the Garden Club then you know how great those coupons are that come out every few weeks (my favorite B1G1 Shrubs and Bushes).

In case you have emailed in the past 3 days and heard nothing from me, I am here.  I promise.   The most difficult side to running Southern Savers is keeping up with email.  You don’t really want to know how many emails I get a day and in all honestly responding to most of them is not humanly possible (if I did there would be no grocery lists this week).

Saying that, I should have realized that something was up sooner.  For three days I went to bed having answered every email that had come in that day.  I was feeling good!  Then yesterday things seemed off.  I didn’t get a single email all day…  turns out our email “name server” (the things this stay at home mom never knew about) was going bad and finally died sometime Friday.  I was getting some messages but not many and then I got nothing.

Well, last night my sweet husband got it working again, however in a matter of minutes of I ended up with over 500 unread emails.  I hope to read them all and respond to those that I can, but please don’t think badly if you hear nothing.  Just seeing the unread email number makes me close the page and move on to less stressful activities (that’s not going to help any though).

                Thanks in advance for understanding.

                  Sears VIP Sale Tonight!

                  sears

Sorry for the last minuteness of this deal!  If you are in need of anything like appliances or electronics tonight might be your night.  Sears is having a Friends and Family Sale starting at 6pm that covers the entire store.  There are some great deals on big ticket items and on smaller items (clothing).

To see the sale ad for the event go here.

A Few highlights to me are:

Most clothing is 40-50% and then you will get an additional 20% off

                  Jeans starting at $14
                  Bras at $3.99
                  Shirts starting at $4.99

Appliances are 10% off and then you get an additional 10-20% off

One thing to note.  Last year a reader took this ad to another store that sold appliances and got a price match with 10% difference.  It’s an idea…

Are there any great deals you see?
