Celebrating birthdays can get expensive, and sometimes we can be pressured by the culture—or even family and friends—to go over the top. But there are so many ways to celebrate a special birthday without going into debt or spending more than you want. We find the best way to celebrate is to be willing to spend money on what matters (and that will vary from family to family) and finding ways to be frugal on the things that are less important to us. Here are all of my favorite birthday ideas, from how to make your own homemade cake, to inexpensive gifts to purchase for birthday parties you’re invited to, to other ways to celebrate the special person without having a birthday party.

If none of these ideas seem like they’ll be helpful, the Internet is a wonderful place when it comes to getting inspiration. You can do a Youtube search for how to decorate cakes and cupcakes if you need help learning that skill!
