This post may contain affiliate links. Read our disclosure here.

Walgreens is running a sale through Saturday on the following items. The big exciting part of the sale is:

Spend $25 dollars on anything in the store and get $5 in Register Rewards.
(excludes prescriptions, tobacco etc that is normally excluded)

Technically you should be able to get your Register Reward by spending $25 before coupons… Walgreens doesn’t always work the way we like though so just keep an eye on things as you are checking out.

    • Liz

So you can use your 5 RR and spend $25 again and still get a 5 RR back? (It’ll roll?)

    • I was told it would not roll. So keep that in mind.

Also, I didn’t see any inserts that were close to $5. There were some Dr. Scholls items that were about $7 or 8 at my store but they were not inserts. The least expensive insert was closer to $10.

    • melanie

sorry but what is a filler item?? thanks

    • Lori

I used this as an opportunity to use my coupon for FREE Glad Fragrance Collection candles from 8/9 inserts. I had three coupons for these and they are $3.29 each. I also had one coupon for a FREE Starbucks ice cream which is $4.79. I got two regular Tylenols and two Tylenol PMs with the B1G1 and had four $2 coupons for them. I also had the Bic coupons and got 3 of the 39cent highlighters and got some of the Scotch mailers for 49cents with the 50cent coupons. I also got my daughter some new nailpolish. Before coupons my total was $30.31. After coupons I paid $3.88 and got the $5 RR. Was really neat to have my daughter there to see the great deals. :)

    • sarah d

Just to let you know, when I tried this out today, the only way it would work was AFTER all coupons had been deducted. Did anyone have any luck getting it to work before coupons?

    • Christie

I was going to use the Glade free candle coupon too..but they only had the 4oz size so it only took $3.29 off the 5.99 price. The cashier was really nice and just voided the transaction for me and we started over. I got the Huggies wipes ($3.29-$2 in store Q- .75 Q= 54 cents) and the Softsoap, Conair brush, 2 SmartRinses (BOGO q + $1 off q), 4 EasyMac cups (2 BOGO q + store q)and kids 99 cent booklet(with the coupons). Total was $25.24 before coupons,$13.50 after coupons and got back $14 in RR ($5, $2, $3 and $4) Oh, and 2 $1 coupons printed for pampers wipes!

    • Becky

Sarah: was your total $25 BEFORE taxes? If not, that might have been why the $5RR did not print. You can’t count tax toward the total.

Good to see we can use Q’s! YAY!

    • Beth

Where can I get the $2 in store q for the Huggies wipes? I don’t recall seeing it in the flier. Thanks in advance!

    • Gerri

If the $25 that I spend includes the Fusion razor and Fusion cartridges and the Softsoap, should I get the $6 RR, the $3.99 RR, and the $5 RR?

    • Robin

My Walgreens wouldn’t let me use two coupons on the tylenol. They said that since one was free and rang up as 0, that I could only use one coupon. I said no thanks and said I’d save my coupons for a better deal. Has anyone else had this happen? Was the cashier wrong? I know I’ve been able to use two coupons on a buy one get one free at CVS and other stores. Should I have been able to get this deal?
On the $5 register rewards on a $25 purchase, they said the amount had to be $25 after coupons. I thought the lady didn’t know what she was talking about, but was afraid to risk having to spend $25 and not get the deal

    • Lynn

I wonder if phone cards would produce this? or ITunes card? Worth a try.

    • Scott

I tried this exact deal and used a coupon on each and a previous $2 RR for the softsoap. None of the RRs would print (supposed to be $3.99, $6, $5). I am having to mail in for each reward.

The manager said it didnt work because I used manu Qs on each item (RR is considered a manu Q) and needed an additional item for each of my items in excess of the Q. It made no sense to me either.

    • I stocked up on the Puff yesterday. We go through a lot of tissues.

    • Christie

Beth, the huggies $2 coupon is in a “back to school” booklet in store located where the store flyers are.

    • Christie

Also, my manager said if you use ANY RR to pay for a purchase that will print more RR, then then those RR will not print.

    • I love the excuses store employees come up with when they don’t really know the answer… I had no problem paying with my RR and getting all my RR. I do it all the time, otherwise I wouldn’t shop at Wags.

Yesterday I bought 2 Dr. Scholls inserts $20.98
      One Soft soap $3.99
I used a $6 RR from last week to pay.
      I got a $10 RR for Dr. Scholls, a $4 RR for softsoap & the extra $5.

No problems and the cashier was so excited she decided to purchase the exact same items to get the $19 back.

    • Anne Marie

      Christie #5
Where did you find the bogo q and the store q for easy mac? In my ad, the q is for boxed mac and cheese.

    • Erin

There is a $1.50 off any Huggies diaper product (will work on wipes!) loaded on coupons.com-should go great with the wipes deal to get some overage!

    • Thanks Christie! I will look for it.

    • Samantha

I didn’t see any exclusions in my email so I tried a 25.00 gas card and the reward didn’t work.

    • Rhonda

Robin: regarding BOGO and using 2 coupons. It depends on how the items ring up. At my local Walgreens, the computer rings one item up at full price and one up as zero. Therefore, I cannot use 2 coupons. However, in some Walgreens computers, both items will ring up as full-price and then the free one will be deducted at the end of the receipt. If the computer does this, then it is possible to use 2 coupons. Not much one can do about how their computer is programmed.

For my transaction today, I had $25+ BEFORE coupons, and less than $3 after coupons. The $5 RR printed, as did the RR for the softsoap. I paid using previous RR (listerine and $3/$15 RR I received from a prescription). There were no issues.

It really bothers me that store managers don’t understand how their computers work and/or how the coupons & register rewards should work. It’s really not that hard when you consider some of the more difficult business management classes one would assume they would need…..(micro-economics, anyone?).

    • J

RHonda, I think you’re asking a lot of a Walgreens store manager. Not that I disagree they should know how their computers work, but they most definitely aren’t taken any economics classes for that job.

    • Allison

Christie- You can use rr to pay for a purchase that will produce more rr, you just can’t, for example, use rr from colgate to buy more colgate that is suppose to give you rr’s. Hope this helps

    • just back from mauldin walgreens. i got 6 of the buy one get one free loreal HIP makeups (the colors kick butt and are comparable to MAC, i have found). if you go to the loreal web site you can get a $1 off ANY loreal product printable for each little quiz you take.
they would let me use 3 coupons, so my total was 29.79. not only did it print the $5 RR, but also a coupon for $10 off my next loreal purchase!
      whoo hoo!

    • Ive been twice to do this deal and both times after my coupons my total was WAY below 25 and I still got my 5 RR!

    • just got back from 2 walgreens and they have the gilette fousion razors on clear. for 2.29 got that and use the 2 free gilette coupons for shampoo and body wash and the 2.00 off razor and got all for .29

    • MelRae

To Scott #11: You have to have the same amount of items as you have RRs+manufacturer Qs. You would think that you could use the RR as like cash or some kind of payment. But that is not how Wags views the RR.

I have not been to Wags since May. Waaay to frustrating, especially when dealing with RRs and coupons. Each time I would go, a different manager would give me a diferent explanation about why this or that did not work. And I have read dozens, if not hundreds of comments over the last several months from others with frustrating scenarios.

That said, I wish everyone luck when they go to Wags!

    • Michael Odell

      Robin! BOGO

Even if the second item rings up $0 you should still be able to use both coupons. However this is where if you start pushing it with the cashier you will get screwed later. The best thing to do is find a cashier that you get along with and understands what you are doing. I have a cool cashier at Walgreens but not very friendly at CVS.

Note: For everyone!!! This is why you shoot the breeze on a few small transaction for a few weeks before diving in with the really complex transactions. Also always respect the line and go to the end after each transaction. Most importantly thank them and even complement them to the manager. Politics always work!

You win some and you lose some!

I went to WAGS today and purchased 9 huggies wipes at $2.79 ea. totaling $25.11 before tax. I used 9 .50/1 manufacturer huggies coupon and one of the $2.00 off WAGS coupon found in the “back to school” flyer. The one $2.00 off coupon took $2.00 off of each box of wipes totaling 18.00 off and the 9 .50/1 coupons took off $4.50. This put my total down to $2.61. After I payed, I received the $5 RR because my total was over $25 before coupons. I did this one more time, however, I didn’t use the $5 RR to pay for the wipes because it was more than the cost of the wipes. I got another $5 RR. So, I got 18 boxes of wipes for $5.22 OOP. But with the $10 RR I got back, I actually made money!! What fun!

    • Just returned from WAGS. Subtotal before coupons was $25.01, after coupons it was $4.18(would have been $2.79 but my free coke q would not scan). I was going to do the 9 wipes but I have several freebie coupons so I got 3 wipes, 2 mighty dog food, 2 axe shampoo, snicker candy bar and sprite.

    • My Walgreen’s trip was great. I got 3 Huggie’s wipes, 4 Velveeta shells & cheese microwavable, 6 BIC hiliters 5-pk, 4 extra strength Tylenol 24-ct and 1 gallon of milk. I paid $4.78 oop and got back $5RR and $1 off next shopping trip for buying shells & cheese again. I might have to go back later. I forgot about the Fusion razors and the Air wicks.

    • lisa

Does anyone know if you can count digital pics toward your $25.00 total? Walgreens has a deal on their website right now where you can print 50 prints for $5.00. Each addtl print is 10 cents ea. I need to print a large # of photos for an upcoming scrapbook retreat. Thought 12.00 in pics could help out my 25.oo total. Thanks for the info. Love this site!

    • Kim

I had a good trip at Walgreens today but have one issue
I purchased 1 stax chips, nail polish remover, glade candle, 6- .49 cent items, flip flops, pert plus, m&m’s, and palmolive. My total was savings (including Walgreens savings) was 29.78 but I paid 5.82 out of pocket. So is the $5RR only for a total of $25 before actual paper coupons? I thought I would get my 5 RR so my total would have only been .49 but I didn’t. I had 19 bucks in advertised WAG savings and 10.69 in mfg coupon savings…

    • Yep- I have a GREAT wags! I did the following:

      8 Glade 2 oz candles 3.29/ea
      Total: 26.32
      -8 free candle q’s
      Total $2.50 oop (tax)

      Printed my $5 rr :)

    • Ln

The $5 RR prints out after you’re finished paying. It does not take the $5 off of your bill, but instead you can use it on a future purchase.

    • amy

Yes Lisa you can use the photo prints towards the $25 total needed for $5.00 rr. I did with no hitch.

    • MS

Can someone please tell me the price of Gillette Razor & Cartridges?

    • Kim

Thanks Lyn..I called Corporate who had the store call me. Found out that the Walgreens on Hardscrabble Road in NE Columbia was not aware of the 4 day sale. Fortunately, the ad pulled up on the Walgreens website under her store location so she said she would honor it. They gave me a $5 giftcard. I would NEVER have even questioned it before finding this site…THANKS JENNY!

    • Bobbie

All stores hate for you to call corporate because corporate calls the store mgr and has them to handle the problem. I called once not knowing and the store mgr called me and got everything corrected. He will never forget me calling corporate but he is my favorite store mgr. and it wasen’t him I was complaining about anyway.

    • Lori

My Walgreens in Pelham, AL now says that they will not take more than one RR per transaction. I had 3 RR for $10, $4, and $2, and 2 manufacturers coupons, and plenty of items to cover that number of coupons. The cashier said she could only take one… that the manager told her that. I asked her which manager, and she said “all the managers” and a manager came up and said that that policy had come down from corporate several months ago. I have used several RR per transaction numerous times. I am done with Walgreens! (after I use my remaining RR)

    • Beth

Just had a crazy experience at Wags. I had 12RR totaling $44. 2 of those were $5 from the 4 day sale. I purchased 13 items totaling $46.27. Neither of my $5 RR from the 4 day sale would scan. The manager told me that it was because I had used another RR for $5 (this one was NOT from the 4 day sale). He said that because the ones from the sale state that you can only use 1 per transaction that I could not use it. I explained to him that I had not used one of those on this transaction. When he looked at the ones I had used, he saw one for $5 from something I got last week and said because I had used that one, I could not use anymore. Only 1 RR per transaction. This was rediculous as he had just scanned 10 that worked. He then changed his reaoning and said it was because I had bought multiples of some items so their registers would only recognize that as 1 item. Bottom line….he did not have a clue why it would not work but he was not going to over ride it! Wags really should train their managers a little better on how their programs work. I will go back tomorrow when the other manager is there and I know he will have no problem fixing it. It just so happens that his roommate is an avid SouthernSaver and she has trained him well!

    • Lori

I’m so sick of RR “rules” changing every other time I go to Wags! I haven’t been in several weeks because of this but the last trip went well so I tried again tonite. I tried the Gilette deal…..neither the $6RR or the $5RR printed….so I tried another deal no RR’s I returned everything and walked out of the store leaving a buggie full of other stuff! I hated doing it but I was so frustrated and the Mgr was ZERO help! I might brave another try at a different Wags tomorrow or I might just forget it!!!!

    • Angela

I went to Walgreens today and I got 4 Mac & Cheese, 2 Glade Soy Candles, Conair Brush, Softsoap, Garnier Fructis Deep Conditioner, 2 Aluminum Foil, Starbucks Frappucino and two candy bars. I wanted to get the bic Highlighters but they were out of them so I substituted the Starbucks and the candy bars.
I used two BOGO for the Mac and Cheese
      (2) Free two oz. Q for the Glade soy Candles
.75 Q for the Garnier fructis
I used the store Q to bring the starbucks down $.75
I used the store Q to bring the candy down $.64
I also used the Back to school $1 Q off of four Mac & Cheese.
      I used $10RR from a couple of weeks ago and a $2RR
      I paid $3.xx OOP
      I got back $5, $2, $4 and $2. I don’t know why I didn’t get the $1 for the Mac & Cheese but I’m not complaining.

Oh, before I did my transaction a woman was in front of me paying for her items. She gathered her stuff up and left. As the guy started ringing up my stuff out comes a RR for $5 off for spending $25 and a $2 RR. I knew they weren’t mine but the guy goes and puts them in my bag so on top of my $13 I also got $7 in RR. Yay.

    • CouponNERD

Wow! I haven’t been to Wags in a while, even tho there’s one right across the street from my job.
      I did a Pampers deal – the 2 for $20 packs, wipes 2 for $5.
Used q’s on each, got $5 and $2 RR back! Used the $2 RR for a greeting card, and left since they were closing for the night.
Now I have $5 RR left to spend sometime, if they have another 4 day sale.
I really prefer CVS – rolling ECB’s, and all that. ;)
