We are well into Flu season and many folks are finally deciding whether they want a Flu Shot or not. While I’m not going to make that decision for you (let’s just let everyone decide for themselves) I do know that cost can be one factor that can decide for you whether you will get a shot or not.

There are a number of ways to get a free flu shot, plus a few ways to actually come out ahead based on where you get your shot!!

How To Get a FREE Flu Shot:

  1. Local Health Department: Check with your county to find locations near you. Most locations offer free flu shots for everyone in the area, but some may be limiting them to children and elderly if supplies are low.
  2. Health Insurance: Almost all insurance plans offer free immunizations and they include the flu shot in that list. You are able to get your free shot at any of the locations below and pay nothing, plus you’ll get the perks that store is offering!
  3. Local Library: While this may surprise you, a lot of local libraries offer flu shot clinics.  Check with your location to see if they are hosting an event to get the details.
  4. Employer: Many large employers will offer flu shots free to their staff.  This is in their best interest as well as yours so take advantage of it!
  5. Colleges: Most college students will find free flu shots in the student union plus stop by the health center any time and get a free shot.   (I learned how to give shots in nursing school by giving them to students in the student union… so be warned)
  6. VA Hospital and Dr. Offices: All veterans who are on VA health care are eligible for a free flu shot at any VA location or office.
  7. Local Hospitals: Check with your local hospitals, many will run free flu shot clinics open to the community on set days.  In our area a local children’s hospital is offering flu shots to all families with kids under 18.

Cheap Flu Shots By Location:

If you plan to head to a local store and either use your insurance or pay out of pocket here are all the current prices for flu shots in 2019.  Plus check out the promotions running in a number of stores.  If the flu shot is already free with your insurance then getting paid $10 to get the shot sounds great to me!

Many locations are waiving the co-pay your insurance may normally charge.  You can always call and see what the cost would be if you think it isn’t going to be free, but I expect you’ll find the answer is always free for most.

If you have no health insurance, your cheapest deal is to head to Bi-Lo or Winn Dixie stores with a coupon from GoodRX.  It’s a free program to help save on prescriptions but they have discounts for the flu shot too!!

Grab the coupon and you’ll pay $24.99 and still get the $10 gift card back.  That makes it $14.99 after the gift card and beats the Costco and Sam’s offers!!
