We all have bad days, or even weeks. Sometimes all you need is a little something to help you turn a bad day into a better one! Whether you need a bit of comfort, a distraction, or just some good old entertainment, here is a list of 20 items that can help!

Here’s to hoping you don’t have to use them too often!

Scented Candle

Aromatherapy can offer natural calming and uplifting effects. Scents like lavender and vanilla can help you relax while eucalyptus can help calm your mind and destress. If you need an energy boost, opt for a citrus scent instead. It’s a good idea to have a set like this 4-pack scented candle set so you can choose the right scent for your mood at any given time.

Bath Bombs

If you’re a bath person, add a bath bomb infused with essential oils to your bath water for some added stress relief. The bright, fun colors of this bath bomb set provide an extra happy vibe on top of the stress-reducing properties of aromatherapy.

Cooling Weighted Blanket

Are you familiar with deep pressure stimulation? It’s a therapeutic technique that involves applying gentle, deep pressure to the body in order to relax the nervous system. One of the easiest ways to accomplish this is with a cooling weighted blanket made of breathable material to keep you from overheating — because no one is happy when they are too hot!

Massage Roller or Acupressure Mat

Other easy ways to provide deep pressure therapy include using a massage roller or acupressure mat. We have this acupressure mat, and it’s amazing! Thousands of acupressure points stimulate nerves and improve circulation for increased energy and relaxation. Use it between 10-30 minutes per day for holistic pain relief. It may be a bit painful at first, but after a few minutes you can enjoy pure relaxation.

Foot Bath with Fuzzy Socks

Sometimes you just need start from the ground up.  Soak your feet in a warm foot bath to ease tension and soreness. Add an epsom salt solution for increased benefit, and throw on some cute fuzzy socks to lock in the warmth.

Nail Wrap Manicure

Never underestimate the instant mood boost that comes from a quick and affordable self-manicure! This is easily accomplished with nail wraps like those offered by popular brand Dashing Diva. Make it a mani-pedi for an extra confidence boost!

Gourmet Chocolate

Do I really need to explain this one? Chocolate makes everything better, so imagine the power of gourmet chocolate!

Favorite Drink

Go ahead and splurge! Grab the chocolate and your favorite drink! Whether your cup of tea (see what I did there?) is a Starbucks coffee, a smoothie, or wine, every bad day deserves a good drink!

Adult Coloring Book

Art therapy is a thing for a reason. It works! Whether you prefer to color mandalas or you like to keep it simple, tapping into your creative side can provide an immediate escape from a stressful day.

Diamond Art Kit

If coloring isn’t your thing, diamond art is another creative outlet that can promote relaxation. Diamond art offers a nice distraction because it requires you to focus on the careful placement of each gem on the canvas.

Puzzles

Similar to diamond art, a puzzle requires focus. Piece by piece, your mind will drift away from the worries of the day and instead provide you with a sense of accomplishment. Keep a stash of smaller and larger puzzles around so you have some options. And don’t forget to grab our favorite rotating puzzle table!

Gratitude Journal with Fun Pens

There truly is something to be said about having an attitude of gratitude. When things aren’t quite going your way, shift your mindset to something positive. Focus on what you are grateful for instead of what you don’t have. Keeping a gratitude journal is a great way to stay on track of counting your blessings. Make it more effective with cute or colorful pens!

Adult Fidget Toys

Who said fidget toys were just for kids? Fidget toys give your hands something to do, which can reduce feelings of overwhelm or restlessness. By engaging the senses, fidgets provide a sense of control in the chaos. Relieve stress and anxiety as you squeeze, spin, pop, pick, etc.

A Good Book

Pull yourself into another world by way of a good book! Get lost in a good romance or mystery. Lift your spirits with a heartwarming story. A good book is easy to come by. Check out how you can download free ebooks and audiobooks on the fly!

A Good Movie

Perhaps you’re more of a movie person. Sit back, relax, and distract yourself with a feel-good flick. I recommend choosing a comedy. Laughter is the best medicine!

Stand-Up Comedy

Speaking of comedy, laughter releases endorphins and reduces stress. So, if you’re in a foul mood, look to stream one of your favorite comedians. You’ll be entertained and give yourself a mental health boost at the same time.

Head to the Gym

Exercise is another way to help your body release endorphins along with other stress-reducing chemicals. Hit up the gym and get in a good workout. Take a walk or go for a run. You’ll feel better mentally and physically. Exercise is a super healthy way to combat stress. If you don’t have a gym membership, you can find free fitness videos online. Try doing regular yoga for long-term stress and pain management.

Spend Time in Nature

Being outdoors can elevate your mood for a number of reasons. Exposure to natural light can increase serotonin in your brain to help produce a natural calm. Take in a nice view, listen to the sounds of birds singing, and breathe in some fresh air. Do one of the other activities I’ve suggested outdoors for a double boost of happy! Enjoy a good book on the porch or do your exercise outdoors.

Cooking or Baking

Believe it or not, cooking or baking is a form of mindfulness.  Following a recipe requires focus and control, but you also have room for creativity. Make your favorite meal or dessert or perhaps try a new one! Engage your sense of smell, taste and touch. You won’t have any room left for negativity! You can find tons of recipes on my site.

And finally, my top favorite thing to do to turn around a bad day…

Read the Bible!

There is nothing more comforting than digging into the Word. It never ceases to amaze me how God can lead to me to read exactly what I need to on days when I feel like I’m falling apart. If you are looking for a new Bible study, I encourage you to check out my favorite place for good daily bible studies: The Daily Grace Co.
