        How Wheat Works

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Wheat Food Council. All opinions are 100% mine.

How much do you know about Wheat?

I think you’ll be surprised at how much you don’t know really. There is a neat program caled How Wheat Works that is a lot like a virtual version of “The Little Red Hen”. You get pick a type of wheat, then plant it, harvest it, mill it, and cook it! While you are working with your special wheat, you will learn some really interesting things about this food that we all eat.

I’m currently in the growing phase with my wheat on a journey to turning it into bagels. Already though I was amazed to learn that there are 6 different kinds of wheat. I thought wheat was wheat with no differences. I also found it interesting that it wasn’t farmed in the US until 1777.

I encourage you to go and participate in your own virtual Red Hen Story (can you tell I have 4 year olds) and learn more about this plant that is in many of the things you eat.

For each person who participates, the Wheat Foods Council is donating 2 lbs of wheat, up to 90,000 pounds, to Operation Home Front, a non-profit that provides assistance to needy U.S. troops and their families.

        For any home schoolers:

        • There are activity suggestions at the end of each phase that allow participants to extend their learning experience through preparing wheat-based recipes, exploring wheat grown in their area through the state wheat commission member sites and viewing harvest videos from “America’s Heartland.”
        • There are games, more resources and even quizes for Kids at www.wheatfoods.org. Click on Just for Kids.

The following is a guest post from Koupon Karen.  This is the third post in a series.

online-survey-site-guideI’m back again to share more of my experience with taking surveys online.  The Part 1 was pretty much about how to get started and prepare to sign up for survey companies.  The Part 2 I talked about another fun part of taking surveys, getting free products to try and then getting paid to do it as well!

Today I want to cover a few things that were mentioned in some of the comments of the previous posts.

          • One reader was concerned because she had to give a lot of personal information when she signed up for one company and she wanted to know if this was normal.  Yes that is very normal. Of course you want to make sure the company your giving all this information too is legit.  That’s part of what I’m trying to help you with.  I’ve worked with the companies I’m recommending and they are legit.  You can also do a google search on them and I’m sure you’ll find more information and other people who have worked with them as well.  Of course there could be some negative comments as well.  Unfortunately someone has a bad experience with just about any company at one point or another.   But they will ask for a lot of information.  Sometimes I get surveys that are about banking.  I don’t feel comfortable giving out a lot of that information so I’ll pass on those surveys.  If you don’t feel comfortable with something that’s OK too.  You can pick and choose what surveys you take and even what information you give them.  As long as it’s not wrong information.
          • One reader signed up with My Survey and received a bunch of surveys the night she joined but hasn’t seen much of anything since.  That is also normal. She did nothing wrong.  I find that with My Survey they go in spurts.  I’ll get a bunch one month and then not so much the next.  Just make sure you always take the little screener surveys the send you because sometimes they are gathering information for an upcoming survey.  And those will give you 10 points too, so it’s not a complete waste of time.  My Survey really is my favorite company.
          • One reader asked about a survey company that you have to buy stuff from, then you get some money back.  Those aren’t real survey companies in the sense that they are paying you for your opinion.  Those are more of what they call GPT (Get Paid To) Sites.  I’ve joined a few of them and really have earned money back when I’ve made certain purchases or clicked links.  BUT a lot of them are big spammers.  If you don’t want that sort of thing, that’s OK.  It’s not for everyone.  But if you have a lot of time on your hands and want to check them out, just be sure to use a completely separate email address because you WILL get SPAM!  The one I like is Squishy Cash.  It’s a funny name but I’ve earned almost $600 with them over time.  If you want more information about them, just contact me.
          • One reader mentioned how several times she spent about 10 minutes on a 20 minute survey and then was told she didn’t qualify. I know this can be VERY frustrating.  It does happen to me too.  I’d be lying if I said it didn’t.  It would be nice if they could tell you sooner but the criteria for the survey may be so specific that they need to ask all those questions before they know if you qualify of if a quota has been met.  Most times it’s just because they already received enough responses from the profile that you fit.  Unfortunately there really is no way of knowing this before hand and as frustrating as it is, try not to let it stop you because it’s not going to happen all the time.  One way you can avoid this is take the survey as soon as you receive the invite, if you can.  It may help a bit.

In Part one I talked about my experiences with My Survey and Survey Spot and then in Part two I talked about ePoll, SayNation! and Survey Savvy. Here are 3 more that I have also worked with.

          1. Opinion Outpost – This is my 2nd favorite survey company.  Their site is very easy to navigate.  When you sign in, it will tell you exactly how many surveys are available for you.  You don’t have to wait for emails and it clearly tells you what you’ll earn if completed and then it shows what surveys you’ve taken as well.  If you look in the members area it will tell you how many points you’ve earned since you’ve been a member and how many points you have available to cash out.  50 Points is $5.00 and once you reach that you can cash out.  You have a choice between Amazon gift cards and a check.  I usually go for the check.  I like the cash!  You’ll receive your check within 4-8 weeks but an Amazon gift card is immediate, which is a really nice perk.  I receive about 2 survey invites a day from Opinion Outpost and they are worth about 25 points, on average.  I’ve worked with customer service in the past and they were great.  I was actually able to get a person on the phone, which is unusual!  They will also tell you when your profiles need to be updated.  That makes it easy to stay up to date.  And most times right before you take a survey, they will ask you about 2-4 questions for upcoming surveys.  That helps to get more surveys that fit you.
          2. American Consumer Opinion – Another really good one and they just got better. Before, once you signed up you’d get surveys to take occasionally and then if you completed it, you’d receive a check in the mail about 4-6 weeks later and completely forget what it was for.  It was a bit of a pain getting $3.00 checks so I’m really glad they changed their system.  You now open an account and can sign in and see all your money accumulating.  Then you can cash out when you are ready, as long as you have $10.00 and they send you paypal!  So much easier that way, at least I think so.  My favorite part about American Consumer Opinion is they will send you a short screener for an upcoming survey.  If you qualify they will then send you the survey in a few days to a week and since you already qualified before, there’s no chance of getting that horrible message “sorry you don’t qualify”.  So you know you were be able to finish the survey and earn your money.  It’s a nice perk and I wish more companies did that.   This is another company that goes in spurts.  Some months I get a lot and others I don’t.  That’s why it’s good to belong to a lot of companies so your always getting surveys.
          3. Mindfield –  Mindfield is another site that is user friendly and you’ll pretty much find everything you need right on your home page.  You can cash out once you reach $5.00 and you will be paid by check within about 3 weeks or paypal within a week.  They send paypal payments once a week so it depends on when you request it.  There are a lot of profiles to fill out for Mindfield so be prepared. You don’t need to fill them all out at once, you can go into your account and do them as you have time.  But the more you do the more chances of getting surveys.  When you sign up, you must activate your account by clicking on the link they send you in an email. Otherwise you will not receive any surveys from them.

Once again, I’ve probably overwhelmed you.  If you want to see more you can check out the Paid Survey Sites page on my blog.  And if you have questions feel free to either leave a comment on this post or email me.  You can get my email address on my blog.

Disclosure: This is my honest opinion of these companies. My words are my own and I have not been compensated by these companies to say anything about them. However when you join some of them, it does helps support my blog.

            Very Last Minute Workshops

            last-minute

Okay guys, I try to not really post a lot about workshops they are really just there if you need/want them.  But we had a ton of requests in the Jacksonville area after the first class filled up… so another “Jenn” stepped up and found a location for a workshop next Tuesday night, 4/6, in the Mandarin area of Jacksonville (I have really no earthly idea where that is or what that means but maybe you do).   For more details or details on other classes head over here.

I am a pretty laid back go with the flow kinda person but this is probably the shortest notice I’ve ever given on a class and I want to make sure everyone at least has the chance to know about it.

Now I’m off to sleep for the next three days to get ready for this long road trip/spring break!

(Not really I gotta get CVS done :) )

Oh, yeah one other thing Tallahassee folks we would still love to have you join our March of Dimes team!!

              An Awesome Walgreens

Walgreens doesn’t have an amazing reputation for good customer service.  It’s sad but very true.  However, there is one store that has won me over!  If I could, I  would drive to Batesburg SC to do all my shopping!

Thanks for making us feel welcome Walgreens!

              (thanks Heather for the picture!)

                I need your help…

I was contacted a while back by the March of Dimes to see if I could help sponsor a team in a local March for Babies.  I checked their calendar and mine and noticed that the one day that lined up was when we are going to be in Tallahassee Florida.

If you are in the Tallahassee FL. area and up for fun on Saturday April 10th, I would love to have you join us at Cascades Park. Registration starts at 9 am and the walk starts at 10.

You don’t have to raise anything to walk with us, just head over here and join our team.   If you come out and join us I promise a fun time and I promise fun prizes.  Yep I’ll bribe you to join me!

                Can’t Join us??
For those you that can’t join us, I would love for you to donate even just $5 (only if you can).

My passion for March of Dimes is from a past need.  Many of you know that I am a mother of twins, our story is too long to share every detail but truly my twin girls would not be here today if it weren’t for Sovereign Grace and for the work, support and research done by March of Dimes.

This is our middle child, E.  born at 3 lbs and her very dedicated dad working to get her out of the NICU.

The following is a guest post from Koupon Karen.  This is the second post in a series.

online-survey-tipsI have more information about taking surveys and earning money and I want to thank Jenny for letting me share more with her readers.  The last time I explained the process of signing up for surveys and a few do’s and dont’s.  I hope no one had any troubles getting started and have already started earning money.  If you haven’t, that’s OK it may take a little while.  Just make sure you filed out the profile or the first survey.  Sometimes that takes place of the profile.

One thing I’ve told my readers is taking surveys can be a great way to pay for your Holiday gifts.  You don’t have to cash out when you meet the minimum.   You can keep the money there and then in August or September start cashing out so you’ll have your cash and gift cards to make holiday purchases.  It’s possible you will have enough to cover it all and then buy yourself something too!

Another good thing about taking surveys is sometimes you may get products to test!  That’s a really fun part.  One time I was sent 6 boxes of tissue.  I had to use 1 box each week and take a 5 minute survey each time.  Buy the end of the review, I had only put in about 30 minutes of work.  I didn’t count using the tissues as work because I just use then as I normally did every day.  So in the end I got 6 FREE boxes of tissues and then was paid $50.00 for doing the product review!! How sweet is that.

I’ve product tested diapers, wipes, food, frozen snacks and so much more.  You never know what you might get.  You also never know when there will be a product test at the end of a survey so make sure you take as many as you can.  Even if they don’t pay, they may pay off in the end.

Now it’s great taking surveys and making money, but my favorite reason for taking surveys is knowing that I was able to give my honest opinion on either an existing product or service, one that they are developing or one they feel they need to change.  They need our opinions.  That’s why even if the survey isn’t going to pay me, if I have the time I still try to take them.  Of course if I have a $20.00 survey sitting in my inbox, sorry but I’m going to do that one first!

Someone mentioned in the comments from the last post that they were invited to be part of a $140 Focus Group once   That can happen too!! Wouldn’t that be great!  $140 for giving your opinion.  Perfect!!  Another person mentioned that she does two surveys per month for one company that pays $3.00 per survey.  That ads up to $72 for the year, not bad either!   Those surveys probably averaged about 20 minutes each.

Last time I reviewed My Survey and Survey Spot.   This week I have 3 more to tell you about.

                  1. ePoll – ePoll is another good one but I don’t receive many invites from them. I get about 2 a month.  Most of them are paid.  I just looked in my account and one survey I’ve taken was for a drawing.  I still don’t mind because the surveys are pretty good.  Now that’s me, you could be different.  It all depends on your profile.  Always make sure you update it.  You earn points for each survey and they average about 500 points per survey.  3500 points will get you a $5.00 gift card.
                  2. SayNation! –  I’ve been finding a lot of people don’t know about SayNation!  I don’t know how I found them but I joined SayNation! about a year and a half ago.  I receive a LOT of survey invites each week.  Sometimes a few a day.  Of course I don’t qualify for them all but some weeks I do qualify for about 4-6 if not more.  Again it depends on how much time I have to take the surveys.  You earn points for each survey completed and even the ‘screener’ surveys will yield you a few points.  You can cash them in for paypal, gift cards or prizes.  It does take 4 -6 weeks to receive your prize but I always get it!  I prefer Paypal or Walmart.com but they have a lot of choices.  I’ve contacted them a few times and the customer service is slow, but good.  Their surveys average about 1000 points and 12,000 points will get you a $10 Barnes & Noble gift card, just to give you an idea.  Now when you join SayNation! you must take the first survey, this is your profile survey and you’ll earn 250 points for doing it.  There may also be a few more surveys waiting for you right away in your account.  They will email you when there is a new survey or it will be listed in your account.  I have found that sometimes I get an email, but it’s not in my account so check both places.
                  3. Survey Savvy – I really like Survey Savvy too.  I get about 3-5 invites some weeks and I seem to qualify for a lot of them.  But what I like about Survey Savvy is they have, from time to time, higher paying surveys.  I’ll take a $10.00 survey any day that’s for sure!  Of course you can’t expect to always get something that high but I’ve had really good luck with them.  They will send you emails when there is a survey available or you can look in your account.  They pay cash and once you reach $10.00 you can request a check.  I’ve never had a problem getting paid by them.  I believe I’ve done product testing with Survey Savvy as well.  It’s hard to remember who sent me what.

I’ll be back again with more!  Hope your enjoying these reviews.  I’ve enjoyed sharing my experience with you all.

Disclosure: This is my honest opinion of these companies. My words are my own and I have not been compensated by these companies to say anything about them. However when you join some of them, it does helps support my blog.
