Back when I first discovered Groupon last year, there was a deal for a coffee company I had never heard of called Zoka Coffee Roaster & Tea Company. Even though it’s hard to beat my husband’s home-roasted beans, I decided to give it a go. I was pleasantly surprised, both with the website itself and with the taste of the coffee!
Zoka is only about 15 years old and originates from that great coffee city of Seattle. Starting out small, the company grew over the years to be regarded as one of the nation’s leading companies. The reason for the renown stretches beyond good coffee – the company is grounded on principles of small batch roasting and, even more importantly, building strong relationships with coffee bean farmers. This is a way in which we have seen many coffee companies take action, and I am excited that Zoka strives to do the same.
You can get their fresh roasted coffee straight in your own coffee maker by ordering online. Order between a vast selection of coffees and loose teas, as well as tools and essentials like grinders, brewers, presses, filters, etc. When choosing your coffee, you also get the option of whole bean vs ground, and which grade of grind you want. I’m all about some choices :). You can also join one of their coffee clubs to receive different coffees on a routine basis.
But enough chatter, on to the Giveaway!
There are nine bags of Zoka’s Tangletown Blend coffee waiting to go out to nine winners! This light blend has notes of apple, caramel and chocolate, and is a tasty treat!

This weekend only you can entertain the entire family and learn how to coupon! I’m a presenting speaker at the Palmetto Sportsman’s Classic in Columbia SC at the State Fair Grounds.
Right after you watch Okefenokee Joe teach you everything you need to know about snakes and nature the husband and kids can go off and learn about hunting, fishing, and adventures while we all stay and learn the in’s and out’s of saving money.
There is a ton to do, so I would urge you to bring the entire family (kids under 10 get in FREE). The Classic is put on by the SC Department of Natural Resources and all proceeds from admission are used by the Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund, a non-profit that promotes natural resources conservation in the Palmetto State.
It costs $8 per person to get in but then most everything you do inside is free (including the coupon workshop). Parking is also free.
Seriously I really want you to come… I’m slightly concerned between Twiggy the watering skiing squirrel and awesome exhibits that I’m gonna be talking to an empty room.
I’m presenting Saturday at 12 pm and Sunday at 1 pm in the Moore Building, check out the full schedule of events.

Everyday women spend their time, energy, and money on cosmetics and hair products. When was the last time you thought about all the rest of your skin care needs? With our focus shifting away from our skin and onto the more obvious appearance, we neglect and harm our skin. In fact, our attention needs to be brought back to our skin, as it is the base of everything else we put wear.
Dove VisibleCare Crème Body Washes aim to heal, and moisturize your skin. Their unique formula contains skin-natural building blocks to help improve your skin’s look over time, giving you visible results in just 1 week when used daily.
Dove recently sent me a bottle of their VisibleCare Softening Creme Body Wash. I have really enjoyed using this formula, as I feel winter really does take its toll on my skin. I’m not one for remembering to take the time to put lotion on after showering and this has made me feel like it’s not even needed anymore.
Dove VisibleCare Crème Body Washes are available in two formulas. Their Renewing formula aims to nourish and replenish the skin. Whereas their Softening formula softens skin and dry spots.
To encourage women to refocus on their skin, Dove is inviting women to create a 60-second video on why they are ready for the close-up experience. The winner will receive a weeklong all-expense-paid trip to Los Angeles where she will get an authentic “Dancing with the Stars” experience. For more information on Dove’s Close-Up Challange, check out photos and videos on their website.
Also, don’t miss out on the $1 off printable coupon on their website right now!
Win It!
15 winners will receive a full-sized bottle of Dove VisibleCare Body Wash.
How to Win It:
Leave a comment with what your 60-second reason is for why you should win the challenge. (Don’t forget to enter on Dove’s site for the FREE trip too!)

This week is Poison Prevention Week!
Have you ever really sat down and thought about how much poison is in your house? I know many of you are parents so this is your yearly reminder to stop and think about how safe your kids and home are. We all know there are obvious poisons that we must protect children from such as bleach, paint, and automotive products, but there are many more that children do not realize even exist. So many medicines, cleaners, and other products resemble things children love to eat, but are actually poison.
One of the shocking examples are gummy vitamins. I used to love eating these as a kid, they look and taste just like candy. However, children can get sick from eating too many.
Windex is another dangerous poison. Windex sitting next to blue Gatorade can look tempting to your children. But (hopefully you know already), Windex is not meant to be consumed. Viactiv vitamins also fall into this category. While they look like chocolate, Viactiv would harm children if they ate as little as ten of them.
These are all great products, but do present a risk to children who aren’t educated about them. The best thing to do is to educate your children on what is food and what can be poisonous.
Mr. Yuk stickers come in handy when dealing with this. You can put the Mr. Yuk sticker on things that are harmful to your children. You can teach them what the sticker means and to never eat or mess with items that have the sticker on it.You can get Mr. Yuk stickers and other free materials from the Poison Prevention website. Lastly, children should know if they are ever unsure about whether or not they can eat something, they need to ask an adult. Just by them knowing to ask, a lot of problems can be adverted.
Accidents may still happen though and children may consume poison, but there is help available. Poison Prevention offers great services that are FREE. We all have access to a center and many of you even have a center in your local area.
Many of the calls that they get each week are about children under the age of 6, more than 80% of the callers are given excellent advice and they do not have to go in for further medical treatment.
The Palmetto Poison Center is teaming up with Southern Savers this week to try to increase awareness. Many centers provide:
- Treatment advice for poison related emergencies/information to the public and health care professionals 24 hours a day, free of charge.
- Free public education programs throughout the state (really to anyone that will listen)
- Public service announcements on poisoning related topics to media on an as-needed-basis (Holiday hazards, poisoning trends, etc..)
- A website where our citizens can order free materials like Mr. Yuk stickers, coloring books, magnets, etc…
The Palmetto Poison Center wants to increase the number of folks that they are helping and educating. So… head over to their Facebook page and become a fan. From their Facebook page, they release stories, safety tips, and announcements. It is a great way to keep up-to-date on your poison awareness!
