A reader asked a great question a while ago about the best rainy day activities in the summer. Many of you chimed in with your answers, and I have gathered them all together so you can be totally inspired! To be honest, this is just a great list of indoor activities, which for us in the South sometimes needs to happen on not-rainy days if we don’t have access to something involving water.

Hilda T.: “Take a trip around the world… Read books, cook food, make snacks, do a craft, watch a movie, play games, dress up, etc. from other countries. Choose a different country each rainy day.”

Valerie P.: “Perler beads, braided bracelets, painting sun catchers, puzzles, baking/cooking, painting, drawing, creative writing, write letters to mail to someone.”
Jennifer T.: “Board and card games!!! We had a couple of rainy days recently so we played Clue, a lot of Uno, Dos, Phase 10! It was fun!”
Cathy C.: “Put small globs of paint on a large paper and then let my grandson drive his hot wheels cars all over it! He’s 5 and still begs to do this often!”
Karen R.: “When my kids were small we had ‘The Rainy Day Bag’ which lived in the top of the living room closet. It had puzzles, tinker toys, Lincoln Logs, and any other cool thing I could find. The bag only came out on rainy days to make it more valuable.”
Jessica M.: “Bubble painting, finger painting, decorating picture frames, making mud pies, board games, rent a movie and eat junk food, bake, color, make construction paper chains, build a fort, play hide and go seek, create your own board game, go fishing, make homemade kites for when the rain stops, use boxes and build a castle, make animal masks and play zoo, make a science project, make slime, tie dye shirts, decorate shirts with markers, decorate old mugs, use old CDs and paint them then add string and hang them from the ceiling, create a play/musical and act it out, help the kids create a new meal, learn the cup song, make paper flowers and build an indoor garden.”

If you love Disney movies you might have pondered joining the Disney Movie Club. Is it a deal? Is this the way to finally add to your Disney Movie Collection? I’m going to break the club down for you and let you decide but bottom line I will say… if you love Disney this is a great way to get movies you want cheaper than full price.
For anyone else that was a teenager in the 90’s this might remind you of the Columbia House CD program…
The Up Front Deal
When you first sign up for the Disney Movie Club you’ll get 4 movies for $1 shipped.
That’s ANY 4 movies of your choice from every movie they own (even those in the vault). This is a very tempting deal and makes many folks start pondering… is it worth it.
The Fine Print aka The Catch
When you join the club and get your 4 movies you are really signing up to buy 5 movies starting at $19.95 (“regular club prices”). You’ll have 2 years to buy your five required movies.
It’s not quite that simple though, each month they will send you a postcard or email of the “featured title movie” of the month. You can select that you don’t want it but if you forget... they will send it and you will purchase it (this does count towards your commitment of 5 movies). Instead of getting the featured movie, select any other movie you would like instead or skip getting a movie that month.
Tip: Set a reminder on your calendar and phone each month so you don’t forget. You can login and make changes easily online.
After you fulfill your 5 movie commitment you’ll either need to cancel your membership or still remember to respond to the monthly featured movie card so you don’t accidentally buy movies you don’t want.
Is The Disney Movie Club Worth It?
Now it’s time to break out the calculator… If you just grab the 4 up front movies and your 5 required movies you’ll spend at least $120.50. For 9 movies that makes it $13.38 a movie. For Disney Blu-ray movies that’s actually not a bad price!
